Luna County, New Mexico
Our first commercial scale renewable energy generation project is currently progressing outside the City of Deming, New Mexico. Copernicus Energy currently controls approximately 3,000 acres of land in several locations within Luna County, New Mexico. We are presently in the final design and permitting stage to develop a solar tower power plant that will generate approximately 20 megawatts of electricity. Our process will produce clean renewable energy utilizing a solar thermal conversion process which uses the power of the sun to generate electricity.
One of the first commercial scale solar tower prototypes ever developed was constructed outside Manzanarres, Spain in 1982 (bottom two photos above). This unit produced power for many years and provided an extremely valuable test bed for the research and development of this type of technology.
An integral part of this type of renewable energy technology is a very large greenhouse structure that surrounds a tall central tower. The air mass inside the greenhouses is heated by the sun and through supplemental heat sources. The hot air is channeled up the central tower and past conventional wind turbines to generate electricity.
With this type of renewable energy technology, Copernicus Energy will be able to generate clean, renewable energy that does not consume any fuel source or produce any type of pollution from a combustion emissions.
In addition, we will generate many new jobs in the Deming area through the agricultural products grown inside the greenhouse structures.
